2009-2010 Essay Topic

Sponsored by Engineers Week and coordinated by Success Beyond the Classroom, this national program introduces students in grades 7 and 8 to engineering with the popular SimCity software (provided to registered schools).

By participating in the Future City Competition:

  • Students design a city of the future with simulation software, build a tabletop scale model, research and write an essay and city narrative, and give an oral presentation to a panel of engineers;

  • Students gain an understanding of the practical applications of math, science, technology and engineering; and

  • Students work with engineer mentors to support their learning.
