A volunteer’s commitment of valuable personal time plays a vital role in the success of SBC’s programs.  We offer a wide variety of meaningful volunteer opportunities for high school students, individuals, community organizations, corporations, and business professionals who want to contribute to their community.  We hope that you will consider the volunteer opportunities below and donate your time to help us provide quality enrichment programming to metro area school districts!

Red T-shirt -  Volunteers


Join SBC’s Red Shirt Volunteers at the Young Authors Conference (YAC) or Student Creativity Festival (SCF).

YAC Dates: May 31, June 1–3, 2011 at Bethel University in Arden Hills. 

SCF Dates: November 30, December 1–3, 2010 at the Science Museum of MN and January 11 & 12, 2011 at the University of MN. 

Time Commitment: 7:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Same day training will be provided.

At these events, volunteers:

  • assist with morning check-in
  • distribute programs & folders
  • monitor lunch
  • guide students in the halls
  • assist presenters
  • monitor the book fair

These volunteer opportunities are a great way to meet new people and work as a team.

Help with
SBC’s Young Inventors Program and Fair.

Commit a morning or afternoon to help evaluate entry forms and provide 3rd – 8th grade young inventors with positive feedback about their inventions and ideas.  Evaluation will take place February 24 & 25, 2010.

Assist April 30, 2010 at the Best Buy Rotunda in Mall of America at the annual Young Inventors Fair.

At the fair, volunteers:

  • interview student inventors
  • assist inventors with registration and set-up
  • distribute programs
  • award certificates
  • take photos of the event

These opportunities are perfect for engineers, inventors, parents and teachers.

Are you an engineer?  Consider volunteering with the Future City Competition sponsored by National Engineers Week. 

Engineers (from all fields) are needed from September thru January to serve as mentors for teams of 6th - 8th grade students. Details

Volunteer judges are needed during the months of December and January. Judges include engineers, city planners and architects.  Details
